My summer gift every year was a season ticket to the “ baths”. Mine being Blackrock, the ticket could also be used in Dun LaoghIre. There was also sea point baths which very few mention. The baths were my mothers live saver as every morning we set of, met up with our pals and spent the morning swimming. Didn’t matter if it was raining.
The only thing our parents ensured was that we were all good swimmer. Same thing afternoon and evening. If we were lucky we got 4d for a bag of chips on the way home. Remember going over the bridge in Blackrock to get to baths, and if a steam engine happened to be coming he would toot his horn and we would be covered in soot. They knew us all.
